Paediatric consultation

Follow my advice for your child's healthy growth! During a paediatric consultation I assess your child's general health, answer your questions and give recommendations on the most appropriate care.

What is a paediatric consultation?

A paediatric consultation is an appointment where the parent and the children's doctor talk in detail about the child's health, development and everyday care. It is useful both when something worries you and when you simply want answers to your questions.

What happens during the consultation?

The child's complaints and previous health history are discussed, a general examination is carried out and age-appropriate development indicators are reviewed. Your questions about feeding, sleep, daily routine and hygiene are discussed separately.

When should you book?

You can book a consultation whenever you notice a change in your child's condition that worries you, during recovery after an illness, or when you have questions about your child's development. In an emergency, contact emergency medical services straight away.

How to book an appointment

You can call, write on WhatsApp or fill in the contact form on the website. It is recommended to bring the results of previous examinations and a list of any medicines your child takes.

How to prepare for the appointment

A short list written before the visit makes the conversation much easier: the main complaint, how long it has lasted, any medicines the child takes, and the results of previous examinations. Bring the vaccination card, the documents from the maternity hospital and any test results you have. For a baby, a change of clothes and wipes help; for an older child, a familiar toy or book makes the waiting time easier.

The child can prepare too: explaining in simple words what will happen reduces fear. You can read a fuller checklist in the article on preparing for a paediatric consultation.

What happens after the appointment

At the end of the examination I explain what was observed and, where needed, arrange tests or further examination. It helps to write the recommendations down or note them on your phone. We decide together when a follow-up is needed; if the situation changes, come back without waiting for the planned date.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent medical care without waiting for an appointment if there is difficulty breathing, a change in consciousness or difficulty waking the child, persistent vomiting, a sharp drop in urine output, fever in a baby under 3 months, pale or bluish skin, or a rash with bruising. This list is not exhaustive — if you are worried, do not wait (see the NHS and AAP sources below).

How long does a consultation take?

The length depends on the child's situation. A first appointment is usually longer, because the whole health history is reviewed; follow-up appointments are shorter. Arriving a little before the agreed time is convenient — it gives the child a few extra minutes to settle into a new environment.

Is remote advice possible?

You can ask questions by phone or WhatsApp, and in many situations this is useful: clarifying a recommendation after a visit, explaining a test result, or reporting how the situation has changed. But a remote conversation does not replace an examination — no diagnosis is made without seeing and examining the child. If the situation is worrying, book an appointment rather than waiting for a reply.

Which languages are consultations held in?

Consultations can be held in Azerbaijani, Russian or English. All the content on this site is available in the same three languages, so you can read the recommendations and preparation lists in whichever language suits you best.
