Newborn check-up

What is a newborn examination?

A newborn examination is a check carried out by a paediatrician in the first weeks and months of a baby's life. During this period the baby's general condition, growth and adaptation to the new environment are closely followed.

What is checked during the examination?

The baby's weight, length and head circumference are recorded, a general physical examination is carried out and reflexes are assessed. Your questions about feeding, sleep and umbilical cord care are answered.

Support for new parents

The first weeks are often full of questions for parents. During the appointment I give advice on everyday baby care, breastfeeding or formula feeding, bathing and sleep routine.

How to book an appointment

You can book a newborn examination by phone, via WhatsApp or through the contact form on the website. It is recommended to bring the documents issued by the maternity hospital.

What to bring to the first appointment

Bring the documents from the maternity hospital (birth weight and length, notes on the delivery), the results of any screening that was done, and the vaccination card. For the baby you will need a spare nappy, a change of clothes and wipes. It helps to write down your questions about breastfeeding or formula feeding beforehand — we go through all of them at the appointment.

What to watch at home

In the first weeks, keep an eye on how feeding is going, the number of wet and dirty nappies, the sleep pattern, healing of the umbilical stump and the colour of the skin. Keeping simple notes is very useful: how often the baby fed and how many nappies were changed is some of the most valuable information at the next visit. Growth is then followed with routine check-ups.

When not to wait for the next appointment

Refusing to feed, difficulty waking the baby, fast or laboured breathing, increasing jaundice, redness or smell around the umbilical stump, or fever — if any of these appear, seek care without waiting for the planned appointment.
