Vaccination

Vaccination

An important step towards a healthy future! I offer safe vaccinations for your children according to the age-appropriate vaccination schedule. Every vaccine helps protect your child from serious infections.

How is the vaccination schedule set?

Vaccines are given according to the child's age and the established schedule. I set out a suitable vaccination schedule for your child in advance at the routine check-up and plan together with you which vaccine will be given when. If a vaccine has been missed, the schedule is reviewed according to the child's situation.

Before vaccination

On the day of vaccination the child is examined and their general condition is assessed. Be sure to tell me about any reactions to previous vaccines, allergies or recent illnesses. Bring your child's vaccination card or records of previous vaccinations.

After vaccination

After vaccination I explain in detail how to monitor your child's condition. Contact me if you notice any sign that worries you.

How to book an appointment

You can book a vaccination appointment by phone, via WhatsApp or through the contact form on the website.

What to expect after a vaccination

What you may seeWhat it usually meansWhat to do
Redness, swelling or soreness at the injection siteA common, temporary reactionKeep things calm; pain relief if advised by the doctor
Mild fever, tiredness, irritabilityThe body responding to the vaccineOffer more fluids and keep an eye on the child
Temporarily reduced appetiteMay last a day or twoSmaller, more frequent feeds
High or persistent fever, change in consciousness, breathing difficulty, severe rashNeeds urgent assessmentSeek medical care immediately

The table is general information and does not replace an assessment by a doctor; the reactions expected from a specific vaccine are explained at the appointment.

How a vaccination appointment works

Before the vaccination we go through the child's current condition, previous vaccinations and any history of allergic reaction. Bring the vaccination card — it is what keeps the schedule consistent. A short period of observation after the injection is recommended.

Vaccination is usually postponed during illness; delayed vaccinations are caught up by rebuilding the schedule. Which vaccine is given when, and which should be postponed, is decided individually.

The vaccination card: why it matters so much

The vaccination card is the only continuous record of which vaccine a child received and when, and the next step in the schedule is determined by looking at it.

What to doWhy
Bring the card to every visitThe sequence can only be followed from the record
Keep a photo of it on your phoneThe information survives even if the card is lost
Bring records of vaccines given elsewhereSo there is no apparent gap in the schedule
Note any reaction, with the dateIt is taken into account when planning the next vaccine

Documents for nursery and travel

An official extract of the vaccination records may be required for admission to nursery or school, and in some cases for travel. If you need such a document, say so when booking — that allows the records to be prepared in time and saves you a second trip.

If you have questions

The order of vaccines, catching up on a delayed vaccine and what to expect after a particular vaccine are all discussed in detail during the appointment. For a general overview, see the blog article about vaccines.
